Tascam DR-05

Updated on

This Tascam recorder works best when recording one-on-one interviews, but is also suitable for recording group conversations. Place the recorder between both people during an interview for the best sound quality.

Starting up the device

1. Turn on the recorder by pressing the stop button (1) for 3 seconds.

How to record

1. Press the red record button (2) to put the recorder in ‘standby recording’ mode. Recording has not yet started. The recording indicator light will now flash.

2. At this point, you can set the recording level. Press the forward button (6) to increase the level and the back button (5) to decrease the level. Normally, a level between 60 and 70 is sufficient.

3. Press the red record button (2) again to actually start recording. The recording indicator light will now remain lit.

4. If you want to pause recording, press the red record button (2). Don't forget to press this button again to resume recording.

5. When you have finished recording, press the stop button (1).

Listening back to your recording

1. Press the play button (4) to listen to your recording on the recorder itself.

2. If you have multiple recordings on the recorder, you can skip to the next recording by pressing the forward button (6) and skip back to the previous recording by pressing the back button (5).

3. You can increase the playback volume by pressing the plus button (7). Decrease the volume by pressing the minus button (8).

Transfer recording to your laptop

1. Connect the supplied USB cable to the recorder (9) and the other end to your laptop, and make sure the recorder is turned on.

2. A choice will appear on the screen: bus power and storage. Select storage by pressing the minus button (8) and then the play button (4).

3. Go to Windows Explorer. A device named DR-05 will appear on the left side of the screen. Click on it and open the Music folder.

4. Drag the files in this folder to a folder on your laptop. Don't forget to delete the files from the recorder after copying them. You can do this from Windows Explorer.
