How do I rescore an exam?

Updated on

Rescoring can be used when a problem occurs with one or multiple questions that are part of a submitted exam.

Please note that with the rescore possibilities discribed below, changes only will be processed for the items in the exam that is/has been assessed. Afterwards, these changes also need to be done in the original item in the collection (library).

Rescoring of items can be done during the markingprocess and even before the assessing has started. You do not have to wait until the assessing has finished or results have been published.
Full score can be done for alle items.
Only the following item-types can be rescored by Change Question:

- Multiple choice
- Multiple response
- Either/Or
- Criteria of Essay questions
- File response

With rescoring some effects will happen on the assessment performance (statistics calculations) when you apply rescoring during the marking fase. If you want Cirrus to calculate the correct statistics including changes based on rescoring you must:

- mark all candidates first
- then submit all results (all markers/assessors)
- publish all results of all candidates of that assessment
- then apply rescoring

With above order of actions Cirrus will calculate the statistics of the original marking and will update the statistics based on the applied changes with rescoring. If you apply rescoring in a different fase during marking (before publishing all candidates) it can lead to no calculation for the assessmentsstatistics or assessementstatistics with no update based on rescoring.
